What is Alex (formerly Apriora)?
Alex was founded in 2023 as Apriora and went through Y Combinator. The company later renamed itself after its AI interviewer, Alex, and moved to alex.com. Its legal entity is still Apriora Inc. In October 2025 it announced $20 million in total funding: a $17 million Series A led by Peak XV Partners and a $3 million seed round led by 1984 Ventures. Alex says it has interviewed more than 1,000,000 candidates and counts Fortune 100 companies, financial institutions, restaurant chains, and Big 4 accounting firms among its customers.
Does Alex conduct live interviews autonomously?
Yes. Alex runs two-way AI interviews without a recruiter on the call, by video and phone, and can also hold text conversations over SMS and WhatsApp. After each interview it produces an evaluation for the recruiter. Around the interview, Alex adds products that InterviewFlowAI doesn't try to replicate:

How effective is Alex at high volume?
Alex reports more than 1,000,000 candidates interviewed, a 96% candidate satisfaction rating, and "2x faster" time-to-hire. These are vendor figures, not independent measurements. On G2, Alex's listing showed roughly 4.8 out of 5 from a few dozen reviews when we checked. Reviewers praise its customization, ease of use, and recruiter time savings. The most common criticisms are that some interviews feel rushed or disjointed, and that automated screening can miss strong candidates with unconventional backgrounds.

According to Alex's documentation, its cheat detection analyzes video (multiple people in frame, plus head and eye movement), audio (other voices and voice changers), and the transcript (answers that look AI-generated). It produces a likelihood score from 0 to 100, and interviews above your chosen threshold are flagged for human review rather than rejected automatically. Combined with ID-to-selfie matching, this is one of the more thorough integrity setups available, and it suits regulated or fraud-prone hiring.
InterviewFlowAI's Trust Score, available on Scale and Enterprise, takes a lighter approach. It flags tab and window switches, copy-paste activity, unusual response timing, and inconsistencies across related answers, and shows these next to the scorecard. It does not score eye movement, which can penalize candidates who look away while thinking, read captions, or have a disability.
