What is AI role play software?
AI role play software lets a person hold a realistic conversation with an AI character, such as a sceptical buyer or an upset customer, and then scores the conversation against set criteria. Teams use it to train employees through repeated practice, or to assess job candidates with one standard scenario each.
Hiring vs training: two different jobs
A training tool is designed for the same people to practise again and again. Leaderboards, certifications, learning paths and per-seat licences all assume a stable team. Hyperbound, Exec and Second Nature are built this way, and that design is right for rep coaching.
A hiring tool has a different job: give people who aren't employees a link, put each one through the same scenario, and produce scores you can compare. InterviewFlowAI gives every candidate one attempt per role play so conditions stay identical; Solidroad's hiring mode lets you choose one attempt or a set number. Jam deliberately uses two rounds to measure coachability, and PitchMonster offers a retest after feedback. Both designs are valid. Decide whether you're measuring first-attempt performance or how someone responds to feedback before you pick a tool.
Pricing follows the same split. Per-seat pricing suits a team you train all year. Per-session or per-hour pricing suits hiring volume that changes month to month.
How we evaluated
We looked at tools that sell AI role play or conversation simulation for customer-facing, management or support roles, and grouped them by the job they're built for. For each, we checked:
- Candidate flow: whether an external candidate can be invited, how they access the role play, attempt rules and ATS links.
- Pricing: whether prices are published, the pricing model and contract terms.
- Scoring and evidence: how criteria work and what reviewers see.
- Training depth: repeat practice, certifications, leaderboards and real-call scoring.
- Reviews: G2 score with the review count.
We read each vendor's own pages, G2, Capterra and Vendr on 11 October 2026. Figures published by a company's competitors are labelled as such, and estimates are marked. InterviewFlowAI is our product; we list its limitations in the same format as everyone else's. If anything here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

Tools for screening candidates
InterviewFlowAI: best for screening candidates across roles
What it is: an AI interview platform with scored AI voice role plays, launched in October 2026. Describe the scenario in a prompt and the AI drafts the role play, asking clarifying questions first. Seven templates cover sales, support, technical and management scenarios, including production incident debugging and difficult feedback. You set 3 difficulty levels, 6 personality sliders and up to 15 hidden facts, and can turn on cold-call mode. Candidates need only a link and a microphone; each person gets one attempt. Reports score 3 to 12 weighted criteria into a 0–100 score with must-pass rules and an AI recommendation from Strong yes to No, plus recording, transcript, timestamped evidence and a PDF.
Pricing: $1.99 per scored role play. Month to month, no seat fees, 7-day free trial. See InterviewFlowAI pricing.
Where it falls short: one attempt per person per role play, so it isn't built for daily drilling. No leaderboards, LMS or CRM links, or real-call scoring. One AI character per call, voice only, and very few third-party reviews so far.
Kendo AI: best for SMB sales teams that also screen sales hires
An "AI sales manager" that combines voice role play, real-call scoring and manager automation. Its screening page lets you build an AI prospect from your real calls, share it with applicants and get transcripts, areas for improvement and call scores back. Pro costs $55 per seat a month (180 role-play minutes and 25 hours of call scoring per seat) and Max $100 (480 minutes, 100 hours), pooled across the team, with a free trial and no card. The screening page doesn't mention an ATS or say which plan includes screening. It's sales only, and Kendo says it's "currently undergoing SOC type II certification". G2: 4.9.

Overvue: best for SDR hiring on a budget
A UK tool that builds AI buyers around the people your team cold-calls, for hiring and then training SDRs. Candidates take the same scenario and criteria through secure links, and you get a recording, transcript and comparable score. Solo costs $32 a month (2 call hours); Team costs $250 a month (10 call hours, unlimited seats, 2 concurrent calls), with extra time at $16 an hour and monthly billing. ATS or CRM integration is Enterprise-only, named languages are English and Finnish, and the review base is small. G2: 4.9.
CodeSignal: best for enterprise technical-plus-GTM hiring
Best known for technical assessments, CodeSignal now markets AI role-play for hiring and development. Its AI Interviewer for Sales can run role plays or custom questions for AE, sales manager, BDR and SDR roles, scored on the same 1–5 rubric for every candidate, calibrated by I/O psychologists, with cheating and fraud flags and ATS integration. Sales, CS and Marketing AI Interviewers need the Grow plan ($479 a month billed yearly, or $599 monthly). Credits work out to $13.69 to $20 each (estimate), and CodeSignal doesn't publish how many credits a session uses or a free trial. G2: 4.5.

Jam: best for EU enterprise sales, from hiring to coaching
A Munich-based revenue activation platform whose hiring docs describe a full assessment flow. Candidates receive an email invite and log in with assessment-only access. Each scenario is completed at least twice: a baseline round, then a second round that applies feedback, which measures coachability. Behaviours are rated Solved, Partially Solved or Not Solved with transcript evidence. Results export to PDF or CSV, and Greenhouse, Lever and Workable connectors are available through an account manager. Setup takes 1–2 business days with an implementation specialist, data is processed in the EU, and pricing is quote-only. We found no G2 listing.

Role play plus call analysis and an AI coach, with phone, avatar and screen-share modes, 29 languages and EU data residency by default. It now quotes per seat, with most teams starting at 5 or more seats on a 12-month standard contract; Capterra still lists $39 and $49 per user a month. Yoodli: best for company-wide communication practice
A well-funded communication and role-play practice platform used across sales, management and leadership, with real-time meeting coaching and integrations including Salesforce, Gong, Docebo and Workday. Individual plans are cheap (Pro $8 a month and Advanced $20 a month, billed yearly); Team and Enterprise are quoted. Its interview feature helps job seekers practise; there's no employer screening flow. G2: 4.8.

Formerly MeetRecord, Outdoo combines role play with conversation intelligence and has the widest format set in this group: voice, chat, video avatars and multi-persona calls, with one scorecard for practice and real calls. For hiring, here is what 100 candidate role plays a month for a year might cost, using published or reported prices. All figures are estimates.
| Tool | Assumption | Est. annual cost | Est. per role play |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kendo AI | Screening draws on pooled seat minutes (not confirmed by Kendo): 2 Max or 5 Pro seats | $2,400–$3,300 | About $2.00–$2.75 |
| Overvue | Team $250/mo plus overage at $16/h; about 8-minute calls; 2 concurrent calls | $3,640–$4,280 (monthly billing) | $3.03–$3.57 |
| PitchMonster | 10–25 swappable seats at Capterra's $39 suffice (seat rules for candidates not documented) | $4,680–$11,700; up to $46,800 if each candidate needs a seat | Not estimable |
| CodeSignal | One credit per session (not published); Grow plus $20 overage credits | $21,348 (annual) to $22,788 (monthly) | $17.79–$18.99 |
| Testlify | Standard plus 1,100 extra credits at $21 (text chat simulation, not a voice role play) | $24,768 | $20.64 |
InterviewFlowAI charges $1.99 per scored role play, but it isn't always the cheapest option. Kendo AI may cost less for sales-only screening if candidates use pooled seat minutes, and for light training of a small team, Exec Starter, Yoodli individual plans and Overvue are comparable or lower. InterviewFlowAI's case is multi-role hiring with role plays alongside AI interviews, at a flat price per scored session whether the call lasts 3 or 15 minutes. See InterviewFlowAI pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI role play platform offers a free trial?
InterviewFlowAI provides a 7-day free trial. Sign up with an eligible business email to get full access to the platform, including AI role plays, AI video interviews, resume screening, assessments and candidate reports, with up to 5 scored role plays with real candidates. After the trial, role plays cost $1.99 each, with no seat fees or annual contract.
What is AI role play software?
AI role play software lets a person hold a realistic conversation with an AI character, such as a sceptical buyer or an upset customer, and then scores the conversation against set criteria. Teams use it to train employees through repeated practice, or to assess job candidates with one standard scenario each.
Can AI role play be used for hiring?
Yes. Some tools give candidates a link to a standard scenario and return a scored report: InterviewFlowAI, Kendo AI, Overvue, CodeSignal, Jam and Solidroad document this. Many training tools (Yoodli, Exec, Outdoo) don't offer an employer candidate flow.
How much does AI role play software cost?
Published prices include Overvue at $32 a month, Yoodli at $8 per person a month (billed yearly) and InterviewFlowAI at $1.99 per scored role play. Enterprise tools are quote-only; Vendr reports median contracts from $12,000 a year (Hyperbound) to $44,356 (Mindtickle) and $129,714 (ReflexAI).
Which AI role play tools publish their prices?
InterviewFlowAI, Kendo AI, Overvue, Exec, Yoodli (individual plans), CodeSignal (Hire plans) and Testlify. Hyperbound, Second Nature, Mindtickle, PitchMonster, Outdoo (paid tiers), Jam, Solidroad, ReflexAI and Zenarate are quote-only.
Should candidates get more than one attempt?
It depends on what you measure. One attempt keeps conditions identical for every candidate (InterviewFlowAI). A second round after feedback measures coachability (Jam requires two rounds; PitchMonster offers a retest). Decide before you build the scenario.
Does an AI role play score decide who gets hired?
It shouldn't. InterviewFlowAI gives a score and a recommendation but no pass mark; your team decides. Mindtickle's recruiting guide notes that rules such as New York City's Local Law 144 may apply when AI scores influence hiring, so check local requirements.
Which tools support the most languages?
Among published figures: Solidroad 35–36, PitchMonster 29, Hyperbound, Mindtickle, Second Nature, ReflexAI and Glider 25+. Outdoo claims 120+ (unverified).
